I Quit!

Sadly, it is an all too common scenario. Organizations can’t find and keep talent. While there are many factors contributing to the problem, the quality of the leader and how he or she treats the talent is the number one reason the talent stays or leaves.

One of the employees posted on social media that the restaurant has a terrible working environment and the manager doesn’t care about the employees.  The employee mentioned over and over again that no one cared about them - not the manager, not the customers and not the owner.

How do you create a culture of care?

1. Determine a meaningful purpose for your organization. Why do you exist at all? Today’s talent wants to be a part of something bigger than themselves.

2. Choose a challenging mission for your team to pursue. Give them a big goal and encourage them along the way and celebrate big when it is accomplished.

3. Demonstrate day in and day out a set of core values that reflects how you will treat others, both the talent and the customers.

4. Be present. Talented people want face time. They know you care when you spend time with them. Show up and serve alongside of them in stressful times.

5. Provide opportunities to learn and grow. This generation of talent craves information and knowledge. Give them opportunities to gain new skills and develop.

Maya Angelou said it best, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” 

The organizations that survive and thrive in these chaotic times are the ones who create a culture of care and treat talent accordingly.
